Six Things To Know Before You Buy A Couch

by Steven M. Fisher

1: COLOR IS KEY.

Look for colors that express your personal style or work with colors you already have in your room because color will be the first element you respond to.

2: COMFORTABILITY.

Once you find the couch you like, test it for comfort. Bounce up and down on the cushions. Make sure you like the feel. After all, you are the one that will be sitting on it.

3: LASTING QUALITIES.

Bounce on it, wiggle the arms and lift the frame. Does it feel sturdy? Does everything feel strong and solid indicating good workmanship?

4: FEELINGS.

How does it feel? Check out the fabric. Are the seams straight? Does the fabric line up properly? Most importantly, do you like the way it feels when you sit on it?

5: THE PRICE.

Double check the price against other couches you have looked at. Good quality can be found in all price ranges.

6: MEASUREMENTS.

Make sure it fits, but doesn’t overwhelm. Additionally, you want to make sure it isn’t dwarfed by your other pieces.
