Drywall Contractors for the DIYer

With lots of people engaging in do it yourself projects around the country, there is one part of the process that really should be done by a professional in order to have a quality end product. Although it seems like a lot of fun when you first start doing it, taping can become a huge headache in a short period of time. Just when you think you have mastered the technique needed, you pull out your light, shine it up against the wall, and every line becomes obvious once again. This is why a Drywall Contractor just might be the best option for you.

One thing is pretty certain. Do it yourselfers tend to cut corners, and cut corners a lot. Many of the instructions seem like they are a little unnecessary, but will often come back to bite you in the butt if you didn’t follow directions carefully! Buying quality tools that will do the job properly is one of those points that can really change the quality of the finished product. Many amateurs will buy over sized knives in lieu of a quality trowel. The results can be devastating when you just can’t seem to feather out the massive joint through the middle of the wall!

Another part of taping that often causes some is being too stingy with the mud! Mud is the creamy drywall compound that is used to fill the gaps, and many do it yourselfers will not use sufficient amounts of it in an attempt to save money. Over use of it is also a problem as too much mud can cause a significant amount warping during the drying process.

The tape should never be fully saturated in large portions of mud as the drying precess causes uneven drying in large gaps. Sometimes, beginners will use too little mud as a means to cut back on the costs of the project, however this too can have devasting effects. If it is your first project and you are planning to do it by yourself, you will likely need a few extra days and a few extra coats of mud in order to get it looking right. Also, expect to sand a great deal to smooth those joints out.

In the end, the drywall subcontractor usually adds a lot of benefit by finishing off your project with a really excellent job. Do the rest yourself, but save the gypsum work for a quality professional. You’ll be glad that you did!
