Futon Bunk Bed. A Winner All Round

by Dave Johnson

Futon beds were originally designed by the Japanese. They were used as bedding through the night which was stored away through the day. The futon bunk bed is a new take on the western version of a futon which incorporates a bunk bed and a futon underneath.

At one point in time you have found or will find that you just don’t have enough space for all of those house guests. A futon bunk bed can alleviate this problem y giving you bedding and seating too. They don’t take up much space but manage to make room for 3 sleeping people. They work just as well in guest rooms as they do for children’s rooms.

You can say good bye to overcrowded bedrooms and guests sleeping on the floor. Besides, they offer a very nice sitting area during the day and of course, extra sleeping place at the night.

There are many different styles and finishes that can be found and there is no end to what sort of bed you can buy. You could go for traditional wood, sleek metal or even funky chrome.

You may choose a feminine style that will look charming in a girls’ room, or a masculine bunk for your sons’ room.

Futon bunk bed mattresses are approximately 2 inches thick and they have a fabric exterior which is sometimes decorated with buttons. The western style futons are more often than not made from wood and metal.

The frame will fold in the middle. This will mean that when side is raised it is a couch for sitting on and when it is laid flat it can be used as a bad for sleeping on. You can buy futons in any size including single, semi-double and double. They are also quite cheap which makes them the ideal solution to sleeping and sitting.

What to think abut when buying a futon bunk bed:

* The mattress for the top bunk should be no more than 9 inches thick.

* Its features top bunks that are accessible using the matching ladder and are surrounded by sturdy guardrails for safety.

* Some futon bunk bed can easily convert into two separate beds.

* Don’t forget that the bottom bunk will fold up so get a mattress to accommodate that.

* Lower futon frame of a futon bunk bed folds down quickly to turn into a comfy full size bed.

* Never attach or hang any item that is not designed for use with twin over futon bunk beds.

* The steel frames are powder-coated in a variety of decorative colors.

* A futon bunk bed can be put together with your normal household tools.
