Create A Room Fit For A Boy

by Kelly Jackson

It might be that your son’s too old for the nursery, or that he’s been showing attraction to a certain subject already. Whatever the reason, there’s nothing better than personally doing the dcor for your little boy’s room. You’ll want his new room to reflect his emerging personality, so it’s a very personal space. Unlike with the kitchen or the living room that’s designed to accommodate guests and family, the room’s new theme will be all about him. It’s a great way to show him that he’s growing up into a new stage of childhood.

Make sure you are aware of which theme you are going to tackle this room with before starting any projects. If your son is old enough he may be able to tell you exactly what he wants and that may make your mind ease for awhile. He’ll be able to tell you what he wants and also go shopping with you for it. If your son is someone who really isn’t into anything big but a few themes put together try to manage a room which would be around that whether it is sports, television shows, or books which are his favorite. It will be quite hard to mess a little mans room up when designing it from scratch.

Another great idea is just to make the rooms theme out of colors. You won’t need to pick a specific item or person to base the rooms design around. By choosing colors which may be his favorite or ones that he has showed you, you can create whatever you want out of it. There are many colors out there which for a child’s room which would look wonderful.

Your next step after figuring out what theme you’ll be going with in his room is mapping out what you want to achieve. If it is a specific theme like the movie cars try to stay in tactic with the red, black, and white color theme for paint and other accessories if they aren’t covered in car pictures.

A dinosaur theme could use a mural or wallpaper with dinosaur pictures all over them. Printed bed covers, patterned curtains and even specially shaped area rugs can all carry the dinosaur theme. You could also emphasize the ‘wild’ feel of the space by adding a thick green area rug to simulate grassy fields. Brighten up the ceiling with glow in the dark fossils and display toys and books about dinosaurs.

There’s a wide range of merchandise on the market to support any kind of themed room your child wants. If a specific item isn’t available commercially, you could also contact an artist or a craftsman to do a custom job for the room. Just be sure to talk with the artist or craftsman about space, design and budget limitations before the job gets started.

You always want to make sure you set a budget for your room and try to stay within that amount. No matter how much time and money you’ve spend on this masterpiece your little boy will enjoy, especially if he was helping you choose many of these items.
