Design Your Child’s Bedroom Makeover

by Jane Noble

Whether your child wants to be the latest rock star or they want to explore the jungle you can create a bedroom that your child will love. Their room should be a place that they can go and grow their imaginations. It builds self confidence and self esteem. You can create a great room with these simple tips.

Before you choose one particular theme, talk to your child about things he likes and dislikes. Find out what colors make him happy and what colors are unpleasant in his eyes. Then take his feedback into consideration as you choose a decorating theme.

If your child has an ear for music and loves to sing and dance, then it is only appropriate to decorate the room with a musical theme. As you begin decorating, the walls are the first project to tackle. Musical rooms could be painted any color so go with your child’s personal color preferences. Add interest by painting an instrument on the walls or making painting a border out of music notes or scores of a sheet music. You could even hang an old guitar on the wall as a great focal point or set up a karaoke stage in one corner where you child can perform.

If a princess lives in your home you want to have a room that is fit for her. A princess themed bedroom is very popular among girls. You can turn the walls into an enchanted forest and place little fairies behind the trees hiding. You can purchase the stencil to create the fairies if you cannot create them on your own. If you have a canopy bed you may want to consider draping a silky material over it in pink shades to give it a princess look. If you don’t have a canopy you can purchase one and add it to any bed.

When deciding on a bedroom makeover, consider these points: A bedroom should have an area to play and plenty of toy storage. You need a small desk or child’s size table and chairs in the bedroom as well. Have a place that a child can express him or herself through art work. Don’t forget the small furniture so your child can sit and have tea parties or friends over. For teens you can purchase inflatable furniture. This is an inexpensive way to have furniture and it comes in a wide variety of design and colors.

Last, make sure you include an area rug in your child’s bedroom design. You can find rugs in every shape, size or color imaginable. You can often find rugs designed specifically for children that are made to match popular themes. Rugs offer a soft place to play or relax and they give a child’s room another element of style and color.

Decorating a child’s bedroom can be a difficult task, but it will be worth it when you seek the look on your child’s face. Whether you choose to decorate the room with a sports theme or a ballet theme, it will become a special place for your child to play and sleep. Your options are almost endless when you design your child’s bedroom. You just have to get creative and your children will have the bedrooms they always dreamed of.
