Placing the rug in one of the most used rooms of the house like the living room can make the room appear larger and even brighter depending on what the colors are in the rug. It can also give the room a warmer feeling to it. Don’t choose a larger pattern for your area rug if you want the room to look bigger.

Using rugs to cover upholstered furniture - If you have upholstered furniture in your home that needs to be reupholstered, one way to do so is to use a rug. Because rugs are so thick, you can use them as upholstery material without having to use foam padding. You can use either upholstery nails or a staple gun to affix the rug to the upholstered furniture. If you want to do it quickly, use the staple gun and then use furniture upholstery nails as a decorative finish. The staples should never show.

How to cut rugs- You will need to use a rug cutter in order to work with rugs when you are using them to decorate furniture. The thicker the rug, the more difficult it can be to cut. If you need an intricate cut, you can also use a jigsaw blade.

When you are ready to affix the rug to your furniture you simple use a staple gun with a commercial grade staple to hold the rug into place. Most re upholstery rugs use nails and tacks to hold down the rug. Place staples in various places to help you tack down your rug and then secure it with more staples.
